“Phu Pha Muak offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the sea of mist and spectacular sunrise and sunset scenery. The atmosphere is especially pleasant during the cool season. From the summit, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of both Thailand and Laos, separated by the Hueang River, making it a unique and charming borderland destination.”

Phu Pha Muak is situated in the high mountains of Na Haeo District, at about 500 metres above sea level. The landscape features rolling hills and cliffs, offering wide panoramic views. Early in the morning, the area is often covered by a sea of mist, creating a magical and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for nature lovers.

The hiking trail to the summit is a natural forest path, approximately 1–4 kilometres long, depending on the starting point. Some sections are dirt or rocky paths with roots and slopes that require caution, but the trail is generally well-marked. Along the way, hikers can encounter local plants and small forest animals such as birds, squirrels, and insects.

At the top, there is a spacious camping area suitable for overnight stays. Campers can enjoy the stunning sea of mist at sunrise or the warm, golden light of the sunset, each offering a beautiful experience. From the viewpoint, the border between Thailand and Laos, divided by the Hueang River, is clearly visible, making it one of the most impressive “two-nation viewpoints” in Loei Province.

The surrounding area, including nearby Phu Pha Nong, is perfect for outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, birdwatching, nature photography, or simply relaxing in a calm natural environment. The air is cool and refreshing in winter, while the rainy season brings lush greenery and small waterfalls.

For convenience and safety, it is recommended to use E-tak tractors operated by local villagers to reach the camping area, especially for visitors with children or elderly people. Contacting the local community enterprise group or Na Haeo Municipality beforehand will help ensure a smooth and safe trip.
